Curry’s Natural “High”
Ever wonder why curry lovers never seem to be able to get enough of their favorite, palate-burning spice? It’s because the darn stuff’s addictive? According to researchers at Nottingham Trent University in England, curry prompts the kind of physiological symptoms addictive substances often provoke, including increases in the heartbeat and blood pressure. “What we are seeing,” explains Trent U. researcher Stephen Gray, “is physiological and psychological effects combining to create an addiction. In other words, curry gives you a natural 'high.’” Gray’s study is based on the responses of 100 volunteers aged 10 to 80.
