Subject: Another Smart Microwave
Dear FTS Forum Editor:
Comment: I read, in the Gadgets and Gizmos section of FTS Forum Issue #4, a report crediting Samsung as having developed the first intelligent microwave oven. This is misleading in that NCR’s Knowledge Lab developed a prototype of an intelligent microwave, unveiled in September 1998, which is one of the world’s leading examples of an intelligent appliance. It not only reads barcodes, it can suggest recipes for the user based on which foods it knows you’ve stocked and also enables you to conduct your shopping on-line after compiling an electronic shopping list from the barcodes on the packaging of foods you want to reorder. In addition, you can conduct on-line banking via this microwave and even email your friends. Full details of this first intelligent microwave can be found at www3.ncr.com/press_release/pr091098b.html . I would be grateful therefore if you Would reword the report on the Samsung product.
