![]() Consumer Food Safety on the WebOur consumer web site seeks to make food fun, enjoyable, healthy, and safe by helping you and your family cook with gusto and passion, choose foods wisely, and handle, prepare, and store foods to their, and your, advantage. National Food Processors Association (NFPA) For many organizations that might be a tough mission statement to live up to. Not for the NFPA, which in December celebrated the launch of its new consumer food safety web site, Safefood.org. http://www.safefood.org Touted as Your Food Safety Connection, safefood.org is a veritable cornucopia of useful consumer information on issues of food science and food preparation safety. It provides food safety facts sheets on topics ranging from juice pasteurization to food irradiation. It presents a history of processed foods and explains how products are processed and packaged (currently: how pumpkin is processed and canned). It presents answers to frequently asked consumer questions about food safety, and offers food safety tips on such topics as preparation of safe school lunches for your children. It even has a page focusing on career opportunities in the food safety field, and another page featuring links to NFPA member companies, government agencies and public health agencies, and to the food science departments of just about every major university in North America. And youve never seen so many food preparation recipes in one location... Cudos to the NFPA and to Safefood.org. |
