Grin and Bare It
According to a recent story by the Associated Press, the Safeway Supermarket chain’s newly enforced policy of “smile and make eye contact” has some clerks in their California stores complaining they have been propositioned by shoppers who mistake the company-imposed friendliness for flirting.

To date, 13 workers have filed grievances over the initiative—including produce clerk Richelle Roberts, who complains she’s propositioned daily by male customers—while more than 100 employees have been sent to a day-long “smile school” for having failed to act friendly enough to corporate undercover shoppers.

And what are the customers’ reactions? Says 41-year-old Daniel Woods: “It’s strange. It doesn’t feel normal. I’m used to shoving and pushing my way through the aisles. It was really funny to have someone walk me to the plastic fork section.”

The Great Three Stooges Beer Mystery
On August 21, 1998, on the eve of the 1st Annual Three Stooges West Coast Convention held in Burbank, California, the Panther Brewing Company announced the unthinkable: someone had swiped 40 cases of the Boston brewery’s new Three Stooges Brew.

Company President, Dewey Parsons immediately offered a $5,000 reward for the beer’s recovery. “We were geared up to debut the beer this weekend, and now this!” he said. “We are offering this monetary reward in hopes that the beer can be recovered in time to be served at the convention.”

One visibly shaken convention goer said it all: “Woowoowoowoo!”
